Its been 36 years ago today, that Don Eugenio Garza Sada died defending himself from being kidnapped. His death was a great and heartfelt loss to many of his collaborators and to Mexico as a whole. Among many other endeavors, Mr. Garza Sada was the founder of my alma mater, Tecnológico de Monterrey. To conmemorate this date, another of his brainchildren, the largest beverage company in Latin America, FEMSA, published today in Mexican newspaper Reforma a notice of the Cuauhtemoc Ideology, a list of principles that informed his work and his life. In them, we can find inspiration that subsists beyond the time he spent among us. I believe these values are as relevant today as they were then.
The Ideology includes 17 statements:

Don Eugenio Garza Sada
Recognize the Merit of Others
Control your Temperament
Never Mock Others
Be Polite
Be Tolerant
Be Punctual
If You are Vain, You Must not Show It
Do Not Alter the Truth
Let Others Speak
Express Yourself Concisely
Clean Up Your Vocabulary
Make Sure You Enjoy Your Work
Recognize the Enormous Value of the Manual Laborer
Think of the Business’ Best Interests Before Your Own
Analysis Over and Above Inspiration or Intuition
Dedication to Work
Be Modest
You can still see the strength and value of such a set of personal and professional guidelines! Explore then fully on the FEMSA SITE or see them in the actions of many people who still find inspiration in this great man’s life! Years ago, my Dad would hand out the Ideology to collaborators and colleagues at TEC. Today, I wish to recognize its transcendence here. Thank you, Don Eugenio. You may rest in peace, knowing that you have left behind a great legacy!
“The respect for human dignity is above any financial consideration.”
